About Me

Our darkest hour

We are suffering badly here. Over 75% of Queensland has been declared as a disaster area. I am still gobsmacked by the extent of the flooding. So far 10 people have been confirmed dead and there are over 70 people unaccounted for. The stories are absolutely heartbreaking. My family and I are fortunate to have not been affected (yet). Parts of our neighbouring suburb, Strathpine, were evacuated today and I've seen some photos and can understand why. Conditions are expected to be worse tomorrow and Thursday. I am scared. Not for my family (yet) but for what it means for our future. I know we'll rebuild. I know things will slowly get back to normal. But I think it has made a lot of us realise that no matter how much planning and safeguarding we make, things like this can come and blow us out of our safe little bubbles. I work in Brisbane city and sent my team home at 10am. I stayed on until about 3pm. When I went downstairs to the Cab, the city was deserted. It was eery. Very weird.

Fingers crossed for those Queenslanders that are suffering badly at the moment. I hope by some miracle that the heavens close and give you all a break.

xx
